Not so sure about fundraising? No problem!

Barb

Do you know the number one reason people don’t give? Because they weren’t asked! Were you upset when a friend or colleague asked you to support a cause they believed in? Perhaps you decided not to give at the time, but upset, probably not. So don’t be afraid to ask. The worst that can happen is that they will say no but if you don’t ask you can guarantee they won’t donate! You never know who has a connection you were unaware of and is looking for an opportunity to make a donation or get involved.

5 Easy Steps to $300!

Post a Facebook contest challenging 20 people to give up their morning bagel or coffee and make a $5 donation………….……………………………….$100
Invite 10 friends over for game night and ask them to contribute $10 each…………………...$100
Ask your employer to donate $25…………………………………………………………………....$25
Babysit your friends' kids for a few hours for a $25 donation………………………………..……$25
Ask 2 family members to donate $25 each………………………………………………………....$50

HAVE A FUNDRAISER

Think about planning a fundraiser! What do you love or are already doing? Maybe babysit for a friend, have a movie night, a car wash, or garage sale! Ask your friends and family to attend and also to help with the planning!

GET THE WORD OUT

Word

Put a link to to our event website in your personal and professional email signatures and mention it on your voicemail message. Reach out to your networks: church, book group, mommy group, bowling league, etc. Tell them what you are doing! Ask if you could put a blurb in their next newsletter or speak for 2 minutes at the next meeting! Tell everyone you know! Don’t forget to remind people that all donations are accepted and make a difference, big or small!

GET YOUR DONATIONS MATCHED!

Ask your donors if their employers have a matching gifts program, ask your employer to match your fundraising or even make a flat donation.

SOCIAL MEDIA

The most successful social media fundraising campaigns have structure and keep things fun and interesting. Give some thought to how and when you plan to post to your sites. When do you get the most likes or comments? Do pictures or videos help grab your audience’s attention? How often do you feel you can post without losing your network? The more thought and planning you put into your campaign the more successful it will be.

DOUBLE THE IMPACT

Want to DOUBLE or even TRIPLE the impact of your sign up? Many corporations and organizations have a Matching Gifts program for employees and retired employees. Sometimes even family members are eligible for matching funds! We encourage you to contact your HR Department today to learn if your company or organization has a Matching Gifts program. It's a very easy way for you to increase the impact of your fundraising efforts!

ALWAYS SAY THANK YOU!

thumbs up

Make sure you are thanking every donor right away. You will receive emails when a donation is made on your behalf online. If you have time, personalize your thank you emails to each donor so they know how much it meant to you and how grateful you are. Even better is a handwritten thank you note it doesn’t have to be long, but your donors will appreciate the extra effort.

We also have Posters, Flyers and Walker Envelopes to collect donations available. Please contact Nick Mourlam by email at NMourlam@ParkinsonsInstitute.org or phone (408) 542-5637 if you would like to request any materials or need any additional resources.
